Medical Missionaries September 2021

September brings cooler temperatures and many fall activities including some exciting events with Medical Missionaries. In this newsletter you will hear about some upcoming fundraisers that you can participate in locally and all over the world, just like our mission. We will also provide a recap of how we have impacted so many around the world. We opened a vaccination clinic in Haiti, supported local Afghan refugees, packed and sent another container, and sent supplies and equipment to the Haitian earthquake victims. It was a busy month but a month that fills our hearts with gratitude as we continue to do this work with all volunteers and supported by our generous donors.

St. Joseph Clinic, Haiti Update

Junior, St Joseph Clinic manager, receiving Covid-19 vaccine

The Covid-19 Vaccination Center has been giving vaccinations at St. Joseph Clinic. The staff has stocked the vaccine Moderna and other materials needed for the vaccination program. This month the team began to promote and administer vaccinations for Covid-19 for the people of Thomassique and surrounding area. In just four days 70 people were vaccinated, including some medical staff. They will continue with the vaccination program every day with the goal of administering two Moderna shots within 28 – 45 days apart. Vaccinated people will receive a vaccination card as part of the program.

Breadfruit Program: Seedlings that the Clinic has grown since starting the Breadfruit Program have been distributed to families in Thomassique and its outlying villages. These seedlings should start producing fruit within the next year or more. The group in Jeremie that have been growing the seedlings have been very successful, ultimately producing 30,000 loaves of bread for earthquake victims. Families in the Thomassique area look forward to their own successes with the Breadfruit Program.

Giving Covid-19 vaccines at St Joseph Clinic

The Clinic staff is happy to share that Clinic activities continue and the Staff is as busy as ever. They are seeing many patients and assisting in delivering babies both in homes and at the Clinic. The Staff is anxiously awaiting the arrival of a large shipment of needed medications that were recently shipped by our organization.

Supplies and Equipment On the Move

Outgoing Supplies and Equipment

Grundy, VA: We provided an emergency shipment of food to support the Appalachia region. The area was inundated with flood waters causing a loss of houses two days before Hurricane Ida went through the area. We are especially thankful to all our supporters who donated extra food for this emergency trip.

Northern Virginia: We supported Afghan families who have been evacuated to the Northern Virginia area. They are especially requesting items for babies and young children.

Manassas, VA: Hygiene supplies and diapers were delivered to the George Town South community.

Local Need: The office is seeing an increased volume of requests for local distribution of supplies and equipment to individuals.

Haiti: Our office is on standby to transport needed supplies, equipment and clothing for Haiti earthquake victims. We have enough supplies to load half a container ready to go, while we wait to hear from our partners from Nativity Parish in Burke, VA. They are working with churches in their area to collect supplies for the Haitian victims as well.

Cameroon: Container loaded with medical supplies, furniture and equipment for a clinic and rehab hospital in Cameroon.

Incoming Supplies Needed

Holiday Toy Drive in Appalachia!  We are in need of new toys, games and books for the Holiday Drive in Grundy, Appalachia. We are shipping the gifts as they come in so that the staff there can inventory them for distribution to many happy children. Monetary donations are always welcome!

Clothing Donation Update:  Please note that we cannot accept winter clothing at the office until further notice, due to storage and transport problems. We will let our donors know when we can resume this process.
