Haiti News

Cholera Update from St. Joseph Clinic

As of now, St. Joseph Clinic has treated over ten patients with cholera since the beginning of the year. Fortunately, we currently have no patients undergoing treatment for cholera.

USAID Support and Uncertainty

Although St. Joseph Clinic does not receive direct USAID funding, several partner organizations that support the clinic have benefited from USAID aid. This assistance has been instrumental in acquiring essential medicines to combat AIDS in Haiti. Additionally, USAID has supported the Haitian Health Ministry (MSPP), which has provided crucial medications and resources to the clinic. The current US environment has raised concerns about the future of these life-saving programs.

Sourcing Essential Medications

Our US team is collaborating with the St. Joseph Clinic manager, Junior Charles Saint-Fleur , to procure additional medications. Building on the success of our July delivery, we are exploring three options:

  • International procurement: We are working with IDA Foundation, which offers competitive pricing but requires a multi-month process with complex shipping procedures.
  • Procurement in the Dominican Republic: Although this option provides faster access, the pricing is less favorable.
  • Procurement in Haiti: This option is likely the most expensive, and there is a significant worry that medications will not have the expected efficacy.

We will continue to navigate these challenges to ensure that the St. Joseph Clinic receives the essential medications needed to provide quality care to patients in the Central Plateau region of Haiti.

Medical Trip To The Dominican Republic

A medical team led by Dr. George Bazaco left the DC area on January 30th and traveled to Banica, Dominican Republic to provide healthcare through mobile medical clinics.  The team provided healthcare to over 800 people during their stay.  Check out our website for a picture diary of their mission.

Traveling Colonels and Medical Missionaries

Ukraine: Retired Colonel Monte Dunard and the Traveling Colonels have worked with Medical Missionaries for the last year and a half. During that time Col. Dunard has given us numerous updates of the wonderful work he and his team have accomplished with the donations received from Medical Missionaries.

We’ve dedicated a page on our website to the work of Col. Dunard and his team and how Medical Missionaries is making a meaningful contribution to that work. We will be posting updates regularly, so check it out, and support our work.

Kudos to Our Incredible Volunteers! Huge thanks to John and Michele, our dynamic volunteer duo, for their outstanding efforts in pre-shopping for the annual Grundy Holiday Giving 2025! They’ve done it again, scoring amazing deals on beautiful clothing and shoes from Costco at unbeatable prices.

They delivered their impressive haul, showcasing their dedication and expertise. John and Michele embody the spirit of selfless giving, and we’re deeply grateful to have them on our Medical Missionaries team. Their kindness and commitment make a tangible difference in the lives of those we serve.

Community Outreach

Rotary Club of Manassas Dinner: Thank you to the Rotary Club of Manassas for honoring Medical Missionaries in their 2025 Reverse Raffle and Dinner on February 8th. Many of our volunteers joined us at this fun and festive event which was held at the George Brent Council Hall at All Saints Church.

We were honored along with Connections Family Resource Center and the Knights of Columbus. The tip jar was overflowing and was generously donated to Medical Missionaries!

We are very grateful for this long standing and supportive community relationship
